SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota has received over $6.5 million in recovery aid from the federal government following storms and flooding across the eastern part of the state in September.
That includes $3.05 million in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for home repair and rental expenses, as well as $3.19 million in low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for South Dakota a month ago, the fourth such declaration for the state this year.
1,411 South Dakotans have reached out to FEMA about disaster assistance in the month since the declaration was approved, according to a release from the agency.
People seeking help can still reach out to FEMA from now until January 17 in the following ways:

– By calling the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362 or TTY: 800-462-7585. Lines are open daily from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Help is available in most languages.
