SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The annual Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon got started Thursday at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls.
The fundraiser is a combined effort by KELO-AM and its sister stations to raise money to help children and their families.
Brandon resident Jennifer Klawitter’s daughter Klara was born prematurely. Jennifer credits equipment sponsored by Children’s Miracle Network with saving her daughter’s life.
“I really feel a deep sense of gratitude that CMN has done for us,” Klawitter said Thursday. “My daughter is now almost five and she’s thriving.”
Klawitter said the help from CMN was more than just medical equipment. She also received CMN-sponsored meal vouchers, an important reminder for her in the five months her daughter was in intensive care.
“Your child needs you to take care of yourself just as much as [doctors] need to take care of your children,” Klawitter said.
Now, Klawitter stresses the importance of paying it forward.
“We’re five years past what happened to us, [but] there’s people walking in today that are starting their journey, same as we went through,” she said. “Their lives are about to change and they don’t even know it yet.”
The fundraiser continues Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more about Sanford Children’s and donate here.
