SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Police are investigating a 47-year-old woman who was scammed out of $44,000 last week.
Someone called her and said she had an outstanding arrest warrant and said they needed money to “take care of it.”
That was Thursday.
She overnighted the money.
The scammer called again and said they needed more money.
The victim overnighted that cash too on Friday.
Then Saturday the scofflaw said they need gift cards.
The police say they have just a few leads to go on.
Sioux Falls Police spokesman Sam Clemens says recovery in these cases is difficult. He says if someone calls you and says it’s an emergency or is constantly calling to check back with you, call the authorities.
Clemens also says that while many scam victims are in the 80s and 90s, people of all ages are scammed.
