SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken is making the case to citizens that the downtown parking ramp project is worth it.
TenHaken said in a video he’s confident they’ll get development on top of the structure in time, but the parking alone is enough reason to go through with it.
“The city has a responsibility to follow through on the city’s commitment on a timely basis,” TenHaken said.
City administration asked the council Tuesday for $1.5 million in extra funding for the ramp, an idea the council deferred for next week’s meeting. The ramp was originally going to have a development on top of it before that fell through, hence the increase in cost.
TenHaken says a new developer will build on top of the structure in due time.
“Rest assured that when the time is right, my administration will work to advance a project that maximizes this location and its development potential,” TenHaken said.
