SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg and the Division of Criminal Investigation have cleared the Sioux Falls Police in an officer-involved shooting that occurred October 6.
After a foot chase, SFPD officers wounded 29-year-old Trent Matthew Wagner. He is charged with aggravated assault domestic.
Wagner had a revolver and fired a shot at the pursuing officers.
Ravnsborg says the police officer was justified in using legal force and firing his weapon.

PIERRE, S.D. – Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg and the Division of Criminal Investigation today released the summary into the shooting of Trent Wagner, 29, Baltic, SD, on October 6, 2019, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Division of Criminal Investigation, assisted by the Sioux Falls Police Department and the South Dakota Highway Patrol, conducted the investigation at the request of the Sioux Falls Police Department.
The incident occurred during the evening of October 6, 2019. Officers of the Sioux Falls Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit responded to a 911 call regarding a weapons violation. Responding officers encountered an armed individual who attempted to flee on foot. A shot was fired by the subject during the pursuit. The situation escalated and a responding officer fired their duty weapon at the subject.
“It is my conclusion as Attorney General that the Sioux Falls Police Officer was justified in firing his weapon and using lethal force,” said Ravnsborg. “I would like to thank the Sioux Falls Police Department and the Officers for their service and complete cooperation in this investigation.”
