SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls will be one of the first cities in the country with 5G technology.
“This will really put Sioux Falls up in the caliber of cities like New York, like Dallas, like Chicago,” says Verizon Spokesman Steve Van Pinter.
Verizon has a big announcement scheduled for Friday, November 1, 1 p.m. at the DocuTap building in downtown Sioux Falls. Mayor Paul TenHaken and Senator John Thune are also expected at the announcement. TenHaken has been tireless in pushing for a technology-driven city. Senator Thune has held hearings on 5G.
Van Pinter says the 5G network should be up and running in Sioux Falls by the end of the year, providing internet at blistering speeds never before experienced here. He says it could mean big things for the local economy.
“Cities that have 5G in it, are perfectly positioned to have some of these next huge companies, next tech companies, next innovative companies located right in their communities.”
