Sioux Falls, SD (10/9/2019) – The Sioux Falls Morning Optimist club donated a complete Learn-To-Ride Program, including Strider Learn-To-Ride Bikes, helmets and curriculum to Laura B. Anderson Elementary. The bikes will be delivered October 2019 and implemented during the winter 2019/2020 school year.
This generous donation will help approximately 400 Laura B. Anderson kindergarten students learn to ride over the next five years. This is the third program of its kind in Sioux Falls; Cleveland Elementary and Eugene Field A+ Elementary received the program in Spring 2019.
The Strider Bikes will be delivered to every kindergarten physical education class on October 11, 2019 and will be incorporated into their curriculum Winter/Spring of 2020.
Laura B. Anderson Elementary will receive everything they need to get their students pedaling through the Kindergarten P.E. program. The program includes a proven, integrative curriculum, staff training and certification, the revolutionary, child-friendly Strider Learn-To-Ride Bikes, and helmets. The fleet of dual propulsion 14x Strider Bikes start as balance bikes and convert to pedal bikes. This conversion makes learning to ride easier than ever before and makes training wheels obsolete. The Strider Education Foundation, the program provider, also offers continued support for each school to ensure everyone involved is successful for five years.
Laura B. Anderson Elementary’s vision is to create a community environment “of shared responsibilities, mutual respect and kindness, as well as, loyalty and commitment to having a positive impact on those around us. By building relationships, we fuel the fire within all our students and meet the needs of the whole child: socially, emotionally, and academically.”
President of the Sioux Falls Morning Optimist club Kevin Watt stated: “We are excited to be a part of the project to supply kids with bikes. Our Club has over a 60-year history of helping kids in Sioux Falls and we are proud to be one of the first sponsors of the program in Sioux Falls.”
Ryan McFarland, All Kids Bike Board Member, is excited to expand the program in Sioux Falls and get more kids on bikes. “Getting kids active is something we all need to be working toward. One of the best ways to get the kids active is to get them excited about bicycles. A lot of kids simply don’t know how to ride. By putting bikes into schools and making racks of bikes as common as racks of basketballs, that ensures every kid has the skill of riding a bike. It’s a skill that keeps them active. It’s also a skill that’s going to serve them in life.”
