SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota has its newest Teacher of the Year, and she’s from Harrisburg.
Amanda Harris, a fourth-grade teacher at Endeavor Elementary, is this year’s honoree.
A teacher at the Harrisburg School District since 2013, Harris was chosen by a panel of educators in the state.
On top of her regular class, Harris has started several after-school clubs at Endeavor and helped start the school’s theater program.
Governor Kristi Noem said Harris “has consistently gone above and beyond in her classroom and in her school district” at the announcement in Oacoma.
Harris is now eligible for the National Teacher of the Year honor, which will be announced this spring.
