SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Hopefully, you got outside today.
It was 73, mostly sunny, with a 20 mph breeze in downtown Sioux Falls at mid-afternoon.
You might have another chance tomorrow. The Weather Channel says it will be 70, partly cloudy, and breezy.
Wednesday night, however, the weather is supposed to make a big change, with rain occurring through Thursday afternoon. Thursday night, TWC says there will be rain and snow and wind at 15-25 mph for Sioux Falls.
TWC also predicts that the snow will miss the area Friday but it will be windy and much cooler. They say expect highs in the mid-30s and winds from 20-30 mph. However, the National Weather Service says the Sioux Falls area may receive half an inch of snow.
Much of the rest of the state may not be as lucky.
The NWS has issued a Winter Storm Watch for most of western South Dakota and up to a foot of snow could fall in parts of the area.
Melissa Smith with the National Weather Service office in Rapid City says how much snow that area gets will depend on how the storm strengthens overnight. If the current forecast holds true, Sturgis can expect around a foot of snow by Thursday night…Still, this storm could produce severe enough winter weather that we could see some closed roads. Travelers should stay aware of changing weather conditions over the next 24 hours.
