WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO.com) — More than 80 veterans of World War Two, Korea and Vietnam are on the latest Midwest Honor Flight to Washington.
There were plenty of red, white, and blue balloons, and plenty of gray, as the aging veterans left Sioux Falls Regional Airport. They sang the Star-Spangled Banner before they boarded the plane.
There are six World War II veterans on this flight, as representatives of the ‘Greatest Generation’ get fewer and fewer.
The vets were just in time to catch the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetary. Some watched from wheelchairs.
A Korea vet actually found himself on the Korean War Memorial.
Smithfield Food is paying for the entire cost of the flight and the visit to D.C.
The vets come from all over the Midwest region.
