SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — At this evening’s Sioux Falls City Council meeting, Councilor Theresa Stehly and Pat Starr are bringing a resolution that would have the city pick up all debris–for free–from last week’s storm.
The title reads: “Motion to strongly recommend to the Mayor that he direct city employees and city contractors to begin immediately picking up all residential debris, free of charge, in the curbside boulevard areas that resulted from the Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 weather event.”
Mayor Paul TenHaken opposes it. He says there are a lot of “armchair emergency managers” who say they would do things differently in the cleanup process. He says six of the eight City Councilors contacted him during the storm’s aftermath.
“As a City Councilor, I’d expect you first to contact me,” TenHaken said. “Talk to me about what the City’s response is, why we’re doing what we’re doing. Grandstanding like this from Councilors Starr and Stehly like tonight is theater, it’s unfortunate.”
The resolution is item 52 of 52 on the Council’s agenda tonight. TenHaken said he didn’t think he would address the resolution during the meeting.
TenHaken appeared on The Greg Belfrage Show this morning. Click here to listen to the full interview.
