SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — City Councilor Theresa Stehly says the City of Sioux Falls should do more to assist citizens with tornado and wind damage cleanup from last week’s storm.
She’s offering a resolution at tomorrow’s City Council meeting that she says will do that.
However, at today’s storm briefing, City public works director said about 92 to 95 percent of the storm debris has been removed.
Stehly has said she wants a City response similar to what it did after the April 2013 ice storm that hit the entire city.
Her resolution is: “Motion to strongly recommend to the Mayor that he direct city employees and city contractors to begin immediately picking up all residential debris, free of charge, in the curbside boulevard areas that resulted from the Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 weather event.”
She says she and Councilor Pat Starr are bringing the resolution “in response to the magnitude of concerns that we have received from citizens, concerning the City clean up efforts.”
At least one Councilor expressed concerns about Stehly’s proposal.
In a Facebook post since taken down, Councilor Greg Neitzert called it a “completely meaningless and cheap political stunt,” he wrote. “The cleanup is happening.”
Neitzert wrote the post Friday evening.
KELO.com News requested a comment from Mayor Paul TenHaken’s office about the resolution but has not received an answer. Mayor TenHaken is scheduled to appear on The Greg Belfrage Show tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
