SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Homeowners and crews were busy this afternoon in the Journey Elementary School neighborhood in far south-central Sioux Falls recovering from Tuesday’s late-night tornado.
Homes along West LaQuinta Street were particularly hard hit. Some homes and garages were destroyed, others had their roofs taken off, others had shingles removed from their roofs, yet others next to damaged homes were unscathed.

The area was hit by one of three EF-2 tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
Streets in the area around the school, particularly LaQuita street, were clogged with dump trucks, trucks pulling heavy equipment, friends, relatives, and homeowners trying to get to homes–and a few rubberneckers.
This was on top of piles of trees, brush, and debris piled by the side of the street and cars and trucks parked along the street.

At another house, the garage collapse on a car.
Mayor Paul TenHaken urges people to stay off the streets so homeowners and businesses can get equipment in and out to make repairs and take away debris, trees, and limbs.
