SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The National Weather Service reports that three tornadoes touched down in Sioux Falls overnight.
All three were EF-2 tornadoes. One barreled along 41st Street, damaging many businesses. Another caused significant damage at the Avera Health Campus. The third touched down briefly in the 85th Street and Western Avenue area. The tornadoes packed winds up to 130 miles per hour.
These are the first tornadoes to hit inside the city for decades.
The tornadoes were part of a massive storm that caused widespread damage. Meteorologist Todd Heitkamp estimates that there is at least some damage in three-quarters of Sioux Falls.
