SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Play Ball! But where if the old Sioux Falls Stadium is torn down, as recommended by a special study group?
Sioux Falls Canaries General Manager Deull Higbe agrees that the old stadium should go, and he has some ideas about a new location, including, maybe, at the Sanford Sports Complex.
“Obviously, they’ve got the Pentagon, they’ve got Great Shots Golf going out there, and it’s going to continue to develop, so that’s a nice, safe landing spot for us, eventually.”
And Sanford Sports may, indeed, build a baseball stadium at the Sports Complex, but then again, it may not. It’s bringing an updated master plan to the Sioux Falls Planning Commission this week.
The updated site plan includes a baseball stadium basically penciled in in green. But Sanford Sports Development Director Matt Ditmanson cautions that the addition is really a place holder, as they haven’t settled on just what they want to do on the designated acreage. Might be a stadium, might not.
Ditmanson does understand the extra interest, what with recommendations that the Birdcage should eventually be demolished.
