FARGO, N.D. (KELO.com) — American Red Cross volunteers from South Dakota have been sent to the southeastern United States in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Dorian.
Gretchen Hjelmstad is the chief communications officer for the Red Cross Dakotas Region, which includes South Dakota, North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.
Seven of those nine volunteers are from South Dakota. They’ll be working in emergency shelters.
She says the seven South Dakota volunteers are from both ends of the state.
Hjelmstad says the volunteers are trained before being sent out….
The deployment for each volunteer will last a minimum of two weeks.
