CHICAGO — The Minnesota Twins are already the most prolific home run hitting team in major league history… on the road.
Jack Cave’s third inning leadoff solo shot off White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease shattered the 2001 San Francisco Giants record of 138.
Cave added another solo homer in the seventh, and C.J. Cron also went deep as the Twins now have 141 dingers away from Target Field.
Minnesota polished off a three-game sweep of the White Sox 10-5 to remain 3.5 games ahead of Cleveland in the A.L. Central. The Indians beat Detroit 2-0 on Wednesday to sweep the Tigers.
With 261 total home runs and need seven more to surpass last year’s Yankees (267) for the all-time record.
There are 29 games left in the season.
The Twins (82-51) begin a four-game series in Detroit (39-92) on Thursday, while the Indians (79-55) start a four-game series at Tampa Bay (77-58).
