VERMILLION, SD, (KELO.com)– It’s not just back to school season for grade schools, but for college students as well.
College kids are enrolling into Universities across the nation.
University of South Dakota President Sheila Gestring says they hope to stay even with last year’s enrollment:
“I think it’s probably going to be pretty stable, which is quite the accomplishment in this region…I would anticipate we’ll be within one or two percentage points of last year’s number,” she says.
Last year, USD had about 1,400 incoming freshmen and over 10,000 students overall.
Housing was a slight issue last year, but this year is different.
Gestring says, “Last year at this time, our housing occupancy was one hundred and two percent. This year it’s about ninety-five percent…We’re looking into why but off my suspicion, is that our upperclassmen have taken advantage of the new apartment complexes that have been built here privately.”
Next month the official number of students for this year will be released by the Board of Regents.
Classes at USD start on Monday, August 26.
