SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America held a rally Sunday night, August 18, at Fawick Park.
Nearly 100 people gathered at the rally to call upon South Dakota political leaders to take action against gun violence.
The Sioux Falls Moms Demand Action chapter, an organization that encourages safe gun ownership and calls for an end to gun violence through background checks and red flag laws, planned the rally.
Attendees took selfies to post on social media, tagging South Dakota elected officials and spreading their message of gun safety.
The rally started to get planned shortly after the Dayton and El Paso mass shootings earlier this month. Members of the local Moms Demand Action chapter were in Washington D.C. while both shootings occurred and marched to the White House in protest.
Nearly 100 rallies were held across the country in all 50 states this weekend to call for the universal background check bill to be heard on the Senate floor. The rallies were hosted by Moms Demand Action chapters and its parent organization, Everytown for Gun Safety.
