SIOUX FALLS, SD, (KELO.com)– A woman is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity after attempting to drown her baby in October of 2018.
34-year-old Julia Jacquelyn Alzoubaidi of Sioux Falls was caught by South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers near the Big Sioux River along I-229 trying to throw her infant into the water.
Both were taken to the hospital where Alzoubaidi said she tried to kill her 6-month-old baby because she believed it had an attachment disorder.
She said that she was then going to kill herself.
Alzoubaidi’s attorney filed the insanity motion in July.
Her trial is set for September.
