SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Minnehaha County is looking for a few good men and women to be volunteer reserve police officers.
Applications are now open.
The reserves help Sioux Falls Police and Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputies at over 70 community events during the year.

The office of Minnehaha County Emergency Management is currently taking applications for volunteer members for the Minnehaha County Police Reserve. Applications for our next training session will be accepted until Monday, September 16th. Applicants must be of good moral character, have no criminal back ground, have a valid South Dakota Driver’s license, be at least 21 years of age, and be in good physical health.
You can fill out an online application by visiting https://www.minnehahacounty.org/dept/em/em.php and clicking on “volunteer application”. Applications can be picked up in person at the Office of Emergency Management at 608 Sigler Avenue during business hours. You also may call 367-4290 for further information. Training will begin in January of 2020.
The primary function of a reserve officer is to supplement and support career law enforcement officers. Each are certified by the South Dakota Law Enforcement Standards and Training Commission. Reserve officers have participated in assisting at parades, Sioux Empire Fair, marathons, holiday patrol, street dances, community events, bike patrol, tournaments, and dignitary visits such as Presidential details.
