SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Civil Air Patrol will again assist with the Sioux Falls Air Show this weekend.
The official auxiliary of the United States Air Force has been assisting the air show since at least 2003.
The citizen volunteers help with parking and safety to handle the 100,000 or so spectators expected over Saturday and Sunday at the S.D. Air National Guard Base on the south end of the airport.
The CAP also helped stage the first-ever Discover Aviation Day today at Maverick Air Center.
Units from Sioux Falls, Tea, Brookings, Mitchell, Miller, Rapid City, Pierre, Custer, Spearfish, and Worthington, Minnesota will participate.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Over 80 members of the South Dakota and Minnesota Wings of the Civil Air Patrol will be assisting with the 2019 Sioux Falls Air Show this weekend.
Led by the Sioux Falls Composite Squadron based at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, CAP members will assist the air show with crowd management safety.
The SDWG will also have an exhibit on the field with the Wing’s state-of-the-art glass cockpit Cessna 182, its glider, small unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and a display on the history of the CAP. Air show spectators can also learn how to join a CAP unit in their area.
SFCS and other units from the SDWG and Minnesota have been assisting with the triennial airshow since at least 2003.
The CAP also assisted with the first-ever Discover Aviation Day during the air show at Maverick Aviation on Wednesday, conducting exhibitions on aviation and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) for students. It will also give CAP members and others an opportunity to learn about aviation careers from schools, governments, and businesses across the upper midwest.
CAP units assisting with the air show are: Sioux Falls Composite Squadron, Lincoln County Composite Squadron (Tea), Mitchell Flight, Pierre Composite Squadron, Rushmore Composite Squadron (Rapid City), Crazy Horse Composite Squadron (Custer), Big Sioux Composite Squadron (Brookings), Miller Flight, Lookout Mountain Composite Squadron (Spearfish), the South Dakota Wing, and the Worthington (Minnesota) Composite Squadron.
All CAP members are volunteers and civilians. The CAP is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force.
