SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The special task force studying the future of the old buildings around the Sanford Premier Center, will recommend that the Sioux Falls Stadium be eventually torn down.
Events Campus Study Group Co-Chairman Ryan Pidde says the stadium is too old and costs too much money to keep up.
“Next five years, you are looking at about, I think, about $3 million worth of capital expenditure and maintenance needs out at the baseball stadium.”
The final report to Mayor Paul TenHaken will also call for a new group to be formed to concentrate just on the Birdcage’s future, where a new stadium could be built and where the money would come from. Pidde says perhaps possible public-private partnerships could be explored.
He says the study group hopes to have its final report to the Mayor before the end of August.
