SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Every time you flush a toilet in Sioux Falls 30 years from now, you should remember August 6, 2019.
“The project we are breaking ground on today is the last piece in a series of projects that conveys over 90 percent of the wastewater generated by the City of Sioux Falls…” Principal Engineer Ryan Johnson explaining the new $24.4 million main wastewater pump station project.
The groundbreaking was live-streamed on the city’s Facebook page.
The new pump station will have triple the flow capacity of the current station, ensuring reasonable, healthy population growth in Sioux Falls for decades to come.
Mayor Paul TenHaken joked that his administration may be known as the “crappy” administration by future generations as he explained the importance of the project.
“This lift station, I would argue, is the most critical piece of infrastructure in the whole city.”
And it may not be as flashy as the Denny Sanford Premier Center or the Midco Aquatic Center, but TenHaken says that naming rights are still available for the pump station.
