SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A citizens group has submitted a petition to make changes in Sioux Falls City government.
Activist Bruce Danielson says the City Attorney is doing a final review on the language that would change the city charter.
Danielson says the changes include returning to the election of councilors by plurality, taking the Mayor off the city council and ending his tie-breaking vote, and having bond issues pass the council by a supermajority.
The group, Triple Check the Charter, plans to have a news conference this afternoon.
Danielson says, by the city charter, changes have to be proposed by at least 15 registered voters in Sioux Falls.
He says they need to get approximately 5,200 signatures to put the petition on the ballot. There would then be a special election.
