SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — While areas across the country are reporting more cases of avian influenza in the bald eagle population, the Black Hills Raptor Center says they haven’t seen any there. The center, located just east of Rapid City, says should a bald eagle come to the center with avian influenza, they would request permission from the US Fish & Wildlife Service to euthanize.
The Black Hills Raptor Center says avian influenza is 90 to 100% fatal in raptors, and they do not want to prolong suffering if the bird is close to death.
