Washington, DC (KELO-AM)  South Dakota's two U-S Senators are reacting to the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki.

Republican John Thune says the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki is a necessary first step, but that the VA crisis is bigger than one person at the top.

Thune says that all who played a role in 'this national embarrassment' must be held accountable. Thune has called for the VA Inspector General to conduct a top-to-bottom nationwide investigation of veteran wait times for health care.

Democrat Tim Johnson says that under Shinseki's leadership the VA made tremendous strides in reducing veteran homelessness, expanding health care benefits to those impacted by Agent Orange, and in introducing new education benefits.

Johnson says he is hopeful that solutions will be found to the widespread problems facing the VA.
