Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) State Representative Steve Hickey (R) wants to use the power of prayer to fight the lawsuit against South Dakota's gay marriage ban, expected to be filed any day now.

Hickey, also a pastor, says his Church, The Church At The Gate in Sioux Falls, is hosting a special night of prayer Friday night, beginning at 7pm.

Hickey says they want to appeal to a higher court, to plead the case that traditional marriage is established by God.

He says this prayer meeting is not anti-gay. Hickey says God loves all people, and loves them no matter what they do, but that doesn't mean He loves everything they do.

A lesbian couple in Rapid City were recently married in Minnesota and then returned to South Dakota to have their union acknowledged, thus triggering the suit. Their attorney is expected to file in a matter of days.
