Undated ( KELO AM) - Former Minnesota State – Mankato football player Isaac Kolstad remains in critical condition and is on life support, after allegedly being assaulted last week.
According to the St. Peter Herald, the family says he had undergone two surgeries and his injuries were more severe than doctors expected.
One surgery, to reduce swelling on the brain, resulted in doctors removing a non-viable portion of the brain, but swelling remains an issue. His injuries resulted in a lack of oxygen getting to the brain, and is in a medically induced coma.
Kolstad’s lungs also were severely injured, resulting in being placed on a ventilator to help him breath. He remains in a Mankato hospital. Doctors are not optimistic about his recovery.
Two people have been arrested in the May 11 incident.
