Undated (KELO-AM) A 9-year-old boy, playing around with a handgun accidentially shoots and kills his 7-year-old brother at their home in Freeman, South Dakota. The boy tells authorities he didn't know the gun was loaded.
Matthew Schlueter with Schlueter Firearms Instruction in Sioux Falls says firearms should always be locked away and you can get relatively inexpensive safety systems at most retail stores. Also, he says, parents should teach their kids from a young age that if they see a gun sitting around at home, not to touch or even go near it, but to tell a parent immediatelly.
The young victim has been identified as Sean Hoffer.
