SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) A virus that kills one in ten piglets (100% fatel to animals up to 3 weeks of age) has run rampant in Iowa and Nebraska. Now South Dakota State Veterinarian Dusty Oedekoven says 25 farms in South Dakota have been officially certified with the PEDV, or porcine epidemic diarrhea virus. This new strain started last April and caught many by surprise.  There is no vacine and bio control standards are being started.  Oedekoven spoke to pork producers in Sioux Falls last Wednesday and told Kelo's Jon Michaels that there is a real concern.  The virus does not affect humans.
