Governor Encourages Donations To Wessington Springs Relief Fund

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO-AM) – Gov. Dennis Daugaard is encouraging those who want to help residents impacted by a tornado last week in Wessington Springs to donate to the town’s relief fund.

“People in Wessington Springs experienced a devastating tornado last week. Some lost their homes, and a few lost their businesses,” said Gov. Daugaard. “Every contribution, whether big or small, will make a difference in helping to restore this town.”

Any business, organization or individual interested in donating can make a contribution by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-Red-Cross or visiting redcross.org and designating a donation for Wessington Springs.

Cash donations designated to the Wessington Springs Relief Fund may also be dropped off at American Bank & Trust locations in Wessington Springs, Alpena, Huron, Huron-Walmart, Wolsey, Miller, Pierre, Mellette and De Smet.

Wessington Springs does not need donations of clothing or houseline items at this time. The town has received more of these items than it needs, and is currently running out of storage room for donated items.

Those who are interested in helping the community with clean-up efforts are asked to register at the volunteer reception center located at the Wessington Springs Elementary School, 904 Second Street Northeast. Volunteers may register at the elementary school each day beginning at 8 a.m. Daily check-out is at the school no later than 7 p.m.
