I-90 closed, Sioux Falls sets rainfall record

by

Undated (KELO AM) - Heavy rain that continued through the overnight hours has closed a four mile stretch of I-90 near Beaver Creek due to flooding.   According to 511mn.org, the road is closed from MN 23 (Exit 1) to Exit 5.

Many county roads in Rock County, Minnesota also have water over them.  Early Sunday morning, the Rock County Sheriff had issued a no travel advisory due to the flooding.  Do not drive through waters covering the road.

Flood warnings for rivers and streams in southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa are in effect through early Tuesday.  Moderate flooding is expected in those areas.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls recorded a record 24 hour rainfall amount of 4.65 inches, breaking a record of 4.59 inches set on August 1, 1959

More rain is in the forecast for Monday, with heavy rain a possibility once again.
