BROOKINGS, S.D. (KWSN)— South Dakota State women’s basketball coach Aaron Johnston announced the promotion of Mike Jewett to associate head coach and named Haylie Linn director of basketball operations.

Jewett, who spent the last two seasons as a Jackrabbit assistant coach, enters his third season with the women’s basketball program. Linn joins the Jackrabbit program after spending two years as the graduate assistant for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s basketball program.

“We are very pleased to elevate Mike to the position of associate head coach,” Johnston said. “His experience and expertise have been invaluable for our program.  The bottom line is Mike makes every aspect of our program better and that helps us create an exceptional experience for our student-athletes.”

A Flandreau, S.D. native, Jewett has coached at the collegiate level throughout the Midwest for 20 years. Prior to returning to coaching with the Jackrabbits, Jewett served as head coach at Southwest Minnesota State from 2006-10. The Mustangs improved their win total each of his four seasons on the bench, compiling a 15-12 record his final season. His career record as a head coach stands at 110-85, including a three-year run at Franklin College (Ind.).

Jewett began his coaching career as a student and volunteer assistant at Augustana (S.D.) from 1992-97. He was elevated to a full-time assistant in 1997 before heading to Franklin in 2001. Jewett returned to the North Central Conference as an assistant coach as St. Cloud State (Minn.), where he helped guide the Huskies to back-to-back NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances in 2005 and 2006.

Jewett also served as head girls’ basketball coach at Brandon Valley High School from 1994-97 and was an English teacher at Marshall (Minn.) High School for two years before returning to collegiate coaching.

“Haylie will be a great fit for our newly created director of operations position,” Johnston said. “She has been mentored by some great people and she has strong ties to the Midwest.  Haylie will bring great enthusiasm and new ideas to how we run our program.”

A Madison, Wis., native, Linn transferred after her sophomore season at Indiana and played two years at the University of Toledo where she was an Academic All-MAC Team recipient and earned the 2011-12 Roy & Gail Hummel Scholarship, awarded each year to women’s basketball player with the highest GPA.

As a senior for the Rockets, Linn appeared in all 34 games, making 28 starts at guard, and averaged 7.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 0.7 steals in 28.7 minutes per game. She also participated in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “So You Want To Be A Coach” program in conjunction with 2012 NCAA Women's Final Four in Denver, Colo.

The Jackrabbit women’s basketball program, which has averaged 23 wins over the last 10 seasons, returns nine letterwinners and three starters off last season’s Summit League regular-season title team.
