Pierre, SD (KELO AM) - Public forums on the availability and quality of Autism care services have been scheduled in South Dakota.
The public forums will offer a chance for families, advocacy groups, legislators, policy leaders and others affected by autism spectrum disorder to provide input. Interested individuals may also provide information via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. State officials have previously stated that public input will be critical to the success of the study.
The study, prescribed during the 2014 Legislative Session, will analyze the availability and certification of providers, accepted treatments and outcomes, and the costs and benefits of autism services for children as well as the impact of requiring insurance plans to cover the various associated services. A report will be issued to the Governor and Legislature by Nov.15, 2014.
The study includes an August 21st forum in Sioux Falls at the Ramkota Amphitheater II at 3200 W Maple St from 5PM to 6:30PM. Other forums are set to take place in Rapid City and Pierre.
Updates on the study will be posted to autism.sd.gov.
