Rapid City, SD (KELO AM) - More than 50 cased of whooping cough have been confirmed in South Dakota this year, with about a third in Lawrence County.
According to the Rapid City Journal, there have been 51 cases in the state so far this year. Seventeen of those have been reported in Lawrence County.
Three-quarters of the cases are from children younger than 15 years old. Lon Kightlinger, State Epidemiologist, says about a quarter of those have not been vaccinated.
According to the Department of Health, if you have not been vaccinated against whooping cough, you can contact local health providers.
