A Rapid City man was found guilty on Friday for beating his girlfriend with a candlestick last year on New Year’s Day.

Luke Elk Nation’s girlfriend testified that he struck her with a glass candlestick, repeatedly kicked her, and broke a lamp over her head, at the South Dakota Rose Motel.

The beating left scars that will last the rest of the woman’s life.

Luke Elk Nation was convicted of aggravated assault and faces up to 40 years in prison.  He was also convicted for possession of methamphetamines found in their hotel room.

Elk Nation was also charged with kidnapping, but the jury was undecided whether the girlfriend was originally taken to the hotel against her will.
