Hesser resigns as athletic director; USF will announce AD search committee

USF Athletic Director
USF Athletic Director

Sioux Falls, S.D.(KWSN) – University of Sioux Falls President Mark Benedetto will soon appoint a committee to conduct a national search to hire the Cougars next athletic director. This announcement comes on the heels of current athletic director Kevin Hesser’s resignation, effective February 7. Benedetto has appointed Pam Gohl, associate athletic director for compliance and senior woman administrator, as interim athletic director.

“Kevin played an integral role in the university’s transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and in the athletic department’s strategic planning,” said Benedetto. “He’s accepted a position in private industry in Omaha, Neb., moving his family to his home state. We’re appreciative of Kevin’s effective leadership at a crucial time in Cougar athletics, and we wish him the best.”

Hesser first joined the athletic department staff in 2004 as a sports information and marketing intern and assistant baseball coach. He earned his MBA from USF in 2007 and served as marketing coordinator at Cleveland State University during the 2007-2008 school year. He then returned to USF as assistant athletic director for external affairs, a position he held until August 2012. At that time, Benedetto appointed Hesser athletic director upon the retirement of longtime AD Willie Sanchez.

“I’ve been fortunate to be part of the USF community,” said Hesser. “This is an incredible institution with top-notch people dedicated to our student-athletes in the classroom and on the field of competition. I’m also appreciative of our business partners in the community who’ve supported our move to Division II. Leaving is bittersweet…I know great things lie ahead for USF and Cougar athletics.”
