SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Governor Daugaard urges South Dakota parents to read the Common Core education standards available online.
Daugaard says Common Core was not written or required by the federal government.
Daugaard believes Common Core was initiated in good faith to provide for more rigorous standards at each grade level. He says South Dakota is showing some stagnation in achievement.
He says the standards a from a state-led effort by governors and education leaders to provide a rigorous set of academic standards.
South Dakota has adopted the standards in math and English only.
