Rick Weiland unveils health care option

Rick Weiland (Download MP3)

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - South Dakota Democratic candidate for Senate Rick Weiland wants to improve health care with a Medicare choice act.

Weiland says the core of his plan allows everyone of any age to buy health insurance from Medicare. He says the problem with Obamacare, and the system it repalced, is that neither offered the Medicare option that would keep big insurance companies honest and their prices down.

Weiland says he has talked with thousands of South Dakotans and not a resident covered by medicare is willing to abandon it for private insurance.

Weiland says his proposal would expand the Medicare pool to a younger, healthier population whose premiums would strengthen the program.

He says there are 140,000 South Dakotans on Medicare.
