Senate hopefuls weigh in on airstrikes

Undated (KELO-AM) Republican Mike Rounds and Democrat Rick Weiland agree on something. Both U-S Senate Candidates basically support the airstrikes against rebel forces in Iraq.

But Independent Candidate Larry Pressler thinks President Obama's decision to bomb was a great mistake that will only drag us deeper into a civil war. Speaking as a Vietnam Veteran, Pressler says we really can't police the World.

Rounds tempers his support with concern over what he sees as a lack of a long term plan which might draw us back into Iraq without a plan for leaving. Weiland says that while targeted airstrikes are needed, we should never have gone into Iraq in the first place.

KELO has also reached out to Independent Gordon Howie for comment on the first U-S military action in Iraq since the troop pullout.

The man all these candidates hope to replace, retiring Senator Tim Johnson (D) says he supports carefully selected airstrikes, but no boots on the ground.

Radical Moslem rebels have been pushing back Kurdish forces and threatening to murder Christians and other Iraqi minorities.
