SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN)- Augustana continued their unbeaten streak against the University of Mary with a ninth-straight sweep of the Marauders on Friday night. The Vikings’ 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 win moves them to 10-2 overall and evens their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference record to 2-2. U-Mary falls to 3-8 on the year and 0-4 in the NSIC.

Kelsey Kaufmann bested her season-high from one week ago with 11 kills with tied for the match high along with Courtney Ysker. The Vikings hit at a .355 clip while limiting the Marauders to a .136 mark with 16 errors and just 30 kills. Kayla Wallerich paced the defense with a match-high 14 digs as Augustana finished with 51.

The Vikings roared out to a 12-4 lead in the first set and coasted to a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-13 win. The Vikings caused eight U-Mary errors and Holly Hafemeyer hit five kills to lead the Augustana attack that hit just one error in the first stanza.

A tight second set was blown open by a six-point run by the Vikings and they never looked back on the way to a 25-14 second-set win.  Brittany Cech and Ysker combined for 10 kills in the second set and Wallerich picked up half her digs with seven. The Vikings tallied 18 total kills in the second set for a .421 attack percentage.

Augustana was pushed in the third set, but a methodical offense and a steady defense gave the Vikings the match in 25-18 fashion for the third set. Kaufmann and Ysker surpassed the double-digit kills mark with five each in the third and Augustana pulled away late in the set for the match win.

The Vikings welcome the Minot State Beavers to the Elmen Center tomorrow afternoon for a 4 p.m. match.
