BURNSVILLE, Minn. (KWSN)- Augustana junior Emily Hanneman was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference defensive player of the week in a press release by the league on Monday afternoon.
Hanneman helped lead the Vikings to two wins this past weekend. First, the Vikings e a 1-0 shutout victory in double overtime against Washburn on Friday. The junior defender followed up that game with a dominant performance in a 4-1 win at Wayne State on Sunday. Hanneman played 164 minutes over the weekend and did not allow a goal while on the field for the Vikings.
A junior from Sioux Falls, S.D., Hanneman collects NSIC athlete of the week honors for the first time in her career. This marks the first time that an Augustana soccer player has won the award since Jessie Huff took home the honors for the week of Oct. 24, 2011.
The Vikings return to the field this upcoming weekend for a couple of home games, including their home opener on Saturday against MSU Moorhead at 11 a.m. on Morstad Field. Augustana also plays on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Northern State.
