PULLMAN, Wash. (KWSN)– Tori Kroll recorded a triple-double and a double-double while Kendall Kritenbrink tallied 42 kills in total on Friday as the South Dakota volleyball team topped Big Sky schools Montana (23-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 16-14) and Eastern Washington (25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 18-25, 15-8) in five sets at the Washington State Cougar Challenge on Friday.
Kroll recorded her triple-double against Montana by recording 55 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills to rally the Coyotes (4-2) back from a two set deficit. The Coyotes dropped behind after Montana had only five attack errors after the first two sets. USD responded with more kills than the Grizzlies in the third (17-11) and fourth (15-14) sets and recorded only two errors in the final set.
Kritenbrink and Sydney Dimke both had double-doubles. Kritenbrink led the team with 21 kills and added 10 digs, while Dimke added 15 kills and 10 digs. Audrey Reed led the Coyotes in the match with 31 digs.
The Coyotes almost gave up a two set lead against Eastern Washington, but rallied in the fifth set for the win. Kritenbrink again recorded 21 kills with Kelsey Biltoft adding 12 kills. Reeg led USD in digs with 15 and Kroll recorded her double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs.
After recording 16 kills in both the first and second sets, USD’s offense struggled in the third and fourth, recording 16 kills in those two sets combined. USD came back and never trailed in the final set and forced Eastern Washington into a negative hitting percentage (-.083).
The Coyotes will take on Texas Tech at 1 p.m. and Washington State at 10 p.m. on Saturday.
