PIERRE, S.D.(KELO AM) – South Dakota officials announce the section of Interstate 90 between Rapid City and Sturgis is now open.
Interstate 90 between Murdo and Wall was opened earlier today. Officials advise travelers that the interstate between Wall and Rapid City and between Sturgis and the Wyoming border remains closed. Crews are working to clear those sections of highway. Officials hope to announce additional openings later this afternoon.
Motorists are advised that, while the Rapid City to Sturgis section of interstate is open, many streets in cities along that route remain impassable. Motorists are also reminded that as highways are re-opened, difficult driving conditions could be encountered, with areas of ice and packed snow. Motorists are urged to adjust to road and weather conditions.
Department of Transportation officials also advise travelers that it will take some time for maintenance crews to open secondary roads in western South Dakota and particularly in areas of the Black Hills. Travelers are asked to be patient while crews complete their work.
