SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - As the Thanksgiving and holiday travel season opens next week remember to pay attention to your car’s tires.
A nationwide survey by the Rubber Manufacturers Association shows 33 million vehicles on the road had at least one bald tire.
Association Vice President Dan Zielinski says to make sure your tires are safe perform the penny test. Insert Abe's head upside down into the tread. If you can see the entire top of his head, your tread is below the level you can count on in slippery conditions - and should be replaced.
Zielinski also advises checking tire pressure once a month and align and rotate them regularly.
He says your vehicle's tires are critical to keeping you and your family safe while traveling the nation's roads over the holidays.
