Go local on gay rights

Gay Rights
Gay Rights

Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The American Civil Liberties Union Of South Dakota thinks going local may be a good strategy to protect gays against job discrimination. The federal anti-discrimination bill, ENDA as it is called, may be moving forward in the Senate but will go absolutely nowhere in the more conservative House.

The State ACLU's Heather Smith tells KELO that it would be great if the State Leiglsature did something, but working on ordinances at the city and county level might be the best way to go. Many conservatives say that this legislation is not needed and would result in costly litigation. Smith says that many big companies now have provisions protecting gays against job discrimination and they have not seen any such problems.
