SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The coldest air of the season is coming to Sioux Falls Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Sioux Falls Meteorologist Todd Heitkamp says there won’t be a lot of snow with the front, but temperatures will be well below normal.

Heitkamp says the windiest time will be Wednesday when gusts will come out of the northwest at 30 to 40 miles an hour.  He says wind chills will plummet well below zero but the winds will slow on Thursday.

He advises residents to bundle up and make sure they have plenty of warm clothing on.  He also says to have a winter weather survival kit in your car and home in case you become stranded or the power goes out.

Heitkamp says the extended forecast calls for the bitter cold to stay into next week.
