City asks for help with fallen branches

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) - With the favorable forecast this weekend, the city of Sioux Falls anticipates many people will begin to assess and clean up the damage from the storm.

Officials say one of the response priorities is to keep roads open for safe travel of the public and emergency responders. City crews are partnering with private contractors to remove damaged, hanging branches from trees and debris in the public right-of-way between the sidewalk and curb. Initial work will begin in the core area of town, the area that received the most damage from this week’s storm.

To continue efficient street clearing operations, trees and branches are being placed on the public right-of-way. City officials continue to develop a citywide long-term debris management plan that will include removal of fallen trees and branches.

If you can safely remove your fallen branches, the City encourages you to take them to either of the two free branch drop-off sites. The drop-off sites are located at either the Street Department (1000 East Chambers Street) or the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds (North Lyons Boulevard). Drop-off sites remain open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
