City-county leaders urge residents to prepare for more outages

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel advises limiting travel, slowing for fallen branches and trees, avoiding downed power lines and where stop lights are out, treating the the intersection as a four-way stop.

Sioux Falls Director of Public Works Mark Cotter says for downed trees or branches call 367-8255.  He says first priority is for a tree on a power line, next is on a house, a car or the street.  He says in many cases the city is going out with loaders and pushing trees off to the side to open lanes.

Cotter says for power outages, Excel Energy Customers can call 1-800-895-1999 and Sioux Falls Light and Power customers can call 373-6979.

Sioux Falls meteorologist Todd Heitkamp says Sioux Falls is in a weather lull now but it will get active later today, mainly after six tonight.  He says Sioux Falls may get another quarter inch of rain, winds will gust as high as 30 to 40 miles an hour.

Heitkamp says Sioux Falls could get four to seven inches of snow through Wednesday night.
